WiFi 2.4 GHz and fiber 1550 nm

Enter 2400 MHz and the calculator returns 0.1249 m (12.5 cm), the well-known WiFi wavelength in the UHF band. Enter 1550 nm and it returns 193.4 THz in the infrared band used by single-mode fiber.

Wavelength λ and frequency f are related by λ = c / f, where c = 299,792,458 m/s (the speed of light in vacuum).

The band label follows the ITU spectrum bands from ELF up through the optical range, mapping common uses like AM radio, WiFi, radar, and fiber optics.

Red light around 700 nm is about 428 THz. Visible light spans roughly 400–750 nm, or about 400–750 THz.

Light travels slower in glass, so the wavelength inside the fiber is shorter than in vacuum, although the frequency stays the same.
